Workers’ Compensation Underwriting Guidelines
Basic Underwriting Guidelines
1. In business for at least one year.
2. Minimum premium of $2,000.
3. Three or more full time employees outside of
owners and officers.
4. Owners must be excluded and low vehicle exposure
if premium is less than $5,000.
5. Good financial condition.
6. No exposure outside of Mississippi.
7. No USL&H exposure.
Prohibited Classes of Business
1. Ambulance Services
2. Bars and Taverns
3. Explosives/Dynamite
4. Convenience Stores and/or Gasoline Stations
5. Fuel Companies and Hauling (including natural
gas, butane, propane, or LPG)
6. Employee Brokerage Firms – Temporary Employees
7. Logging Operations
8. Pest Control
9. Underground Mining and Underground Tunneling
10. Professional Sports Teams
11. Asbestos
12. Crane Rental
13. Pizza Delivery
14. Sub Aqueous (under water) Work
Not Recommended, But Could Be Considered On An
Exception Only Basis
1. Paper Contractors
2. Law Firms
3. Radio and Television Reporters
4. Confined Space Entry
5. Civil Engineers
6. Insurance Agencies
7. Dock Builders/Sea Wall Contractors
8. Oil or Gas Pipeline Construction
9. Amusement Parks
